Building Construction & Materials

This modules introduces all kinds of building construction and building materiality components of a house such as the staircase, windows, doors and etc. I learned the construction process of a small/medium scale from its preliminary process to foundation and superstructure. The modules also introduces different kinds of materiality available for constructions, different materials such as timber, concrete, plastic or glass have different properties which suits for different kinds of building construction.

Famous Architect

In this project, we have to choose a famous architect and review/study one of the buildings that they designed. I chose an American architect named Frank Lloyd Wright for his work : Fallingwater. From the design of the building, I analysed the structural and architectural materiality that was used for the construction of the building and compile them in 2 A3 boards.

Construction Detail of Building Elements

This project is worked in a group of 7-8 students, with 4 minimum architecture and 3 interior design students. We selected a 2-storey corner lot house and we had to produce the detailed drawings for the construction process and orthographic drawings. We were told by the lecturer that the house to be built with timber. From this assignment, we learned a lot about the timber frame work structure and the construction process of a building and the application of each building elements. The drawings produced were drawn manually according to scale.

Reflection

This module taught me a lot of new terminologies and details of each component of structure. The tutorial tasks helped me to understand more about the materiality of building construction. Throughout the module, I had to go through many drawings together with my groupmates to search for answers about the detailing and construction process of each building component. Coordination through online is harder but we managed to complete all the tasks given.
